President's Comments:

"When you turn on your car, does it return the favor?" When you drive your Corvette do you have a smile that just won't go away. Do you look in the garage and get a good feeling because you've got a Corvette in it? If you answered yes to these questions you are probably "Corvette Crazy"! It's not a disease. I think it's just a nice feeling of self-satisfaction. A feeling of pride in knowing that your hard work has paid off. Sure there's other things that prove that but driving my Corvette just feels so damn good! So when your feeling bad because of a lousy day at work or just feeling bad hop in your Corvette and let it TURN YOU ON!

Have A Great Corvette Month !!

Tech Tips:

If you have been listening to some of the automotive forums lately, there has been a lot of buzz about the recent government mandated motor oil reformulation. It seems that some pencil pushing bureaucrat decided we needed to get the zinc and phosphorous out of motor oil cause it was damaging catalytic converters. What’s the big deal, well, the additive ZDDP (zinc-dialkyl-dithiophosphate) that is added to motor oil is an extreme pressure antiwear additive. With the lower levels of ZDDP now in most off the shelf oil, wear on those motor parts that side against each other while under pressure can suffer greatly increased levels of wear. So, which engine parts do this? The cam and lifters do, but ONLY if the lifters are the flat tappet type, rather than roller tappets. For Vettes, our engine have had roller lifters since ’87, and rollers were pretty much industry wide by the mid 90’s. And really, the primary area of concern for the flat tappet motors is during the initial break-in period. The first 300-500 miles are critical and during this time absolutely need an oil containing a significant amount of ZDDP, or use an oil additive containing ZDDP. Once the engine is broken in, it would be a good idea to be selective on the choice of oil, especially if the engine has high load valve springs. If you want to use Mobil 1, their 0-40 “For European Cars” formula would be a good choice, or the Mobil 1 high mileage 10-40. These both have 1000ppm of ZDDP, as opposed to 800ppm for other Mobil 1 oils. Or you can spend a little more and get a ‘true’ synthetic oil that provides roughly 4 times the protection of Mobil 1. These oils include Red Line, Royal Purple, and Amsoil.

It really tic’s me off that the feds are screwing with our motor oils, as the difference the reduced levels of ZDDP will make to the life of a catalytic converter is very, very little. Its just our ‘big brother’ watching out for us!!

Fourth of July on the 19th:

The Circle City Corvette Club apprehended again while having fun. Our thanks, once again, to the Carters for hosting our Fourth of July Party. For more poolside fun, click here.

July Mystery Cruise: July 26th, Colquitt, Georgia. Thanks Much Rick Early for taking the time to plan and coordinate this months Mystery Cruise – Good Job!!

Rick Early lead us on a tour of most of Southwest Georgia to reach Colquitt, home of Swamp Gravy and the Tarrer Inn.

Here, we twelve 'vettes park in the town square opposite the Inn.

The historic Tarrer Inn, built inside a salvaged building on the square. The dinner theatre, perpetually playing "Swamp Gravy," stands not far north in another recycled industrial building.

The finely appointed interior. Don't stand to close to Kelley when he's got his fork in hand.

Car of the Month:

RICK AND SUE'S CORVETTES 2008 Z06 2005 C6 COUPE

Chevy introduced the 2006 corvette Z06 at the North American International Auto Show. It was the fastest most powerful car ever offered by Chevrolet and GM until the new ZR1 emerged. It is comprised of an unprecedented level of capability and technology, making it one of the greatest performance values on the market. If you have ever driven the new Z06,you will know immediately, as you shift through the gears that this is the best Z yet. The most obvious differences between the two cars we have is that the '08 is a victory red Z06 and the '05 is a millennium yellow C6 coupe. Both are performance cars and have very different handling characteristics. The '05 C6 has the 6.0 400hp engine, 4 speed automatic transmission that has been modified by extreme motor sports. The extreme phase 1 modification consisted of the addition of a PRO CHARGER supercharger, Melrose headers, B&B bullets with 3" pipes all the way back, track lowered 1.5" and dyno-tuned. The car turned 563 rwhp at 5800 rpms on the dyno. The new Z06 is stock and came with the 7.0L 427CUI 505hp engine and has the 6hp exhaust option. The Z handles and performs much better the C6 mod car, but don't get me wrong folks, the yellow car is just mean. Overall the Z06 is superior to the 05 coupe in almost every category, but I think the yellow car will outrun the Z if I could just get some GRIP on the rear wheels.
