President's Comments:

Our activities in December included our annual Christmas Party and participating in the Headland Christmas Parade. The party was again held at Jeff and Cindy’s Dothan Conference Center. We are so fortunate to have the use of their terrific facility. This year, as club members arrived, Seaby and David Miller were busy getting a photo. This will be used to update the ‘member rides’ section of our web site. The dinner was one of the best I can remember as the club ladies had prepared some incredible dishes to share. After dinner we had a short meeting, then I turned it over to Kelly to officiate the Dirty Santa proceedings. Before we ended the night, I announced that Seaby had made a run to Wal-Mart and got 8x11 copies of the photos he took earlier, so everyone got to take home a nice picture of themselves next to their Corvette.

On the 10th, we provided 10 cars for the Headland Christmas Parade. We did encounter a couple of problems with this parade. This is causing us to re-evaluate how and when we do parades in the future, and will be discussed at the January meeting.

For January, Kelly and Kathy are putting together a local cruise for us. We should have details at our January meeting. Looking forward into February, the Cruisin Corvette club of Tallahassee has again invited us to their annual Valentine Party. This year it will be on the 11th, so put this one on your February calendar.

We want to welcome George Heneveld to the club’s Board of Directors for 2012 as a Member-at-Large. We expect great things from George. George is replacing the outgoing Member-at-Large Rick Early. Rick served on the Board in this position for several years and provided excellent leadership and direction for the club – Thank You Rick!!! The Board, and in particular John Hickman and Charley Robertson, are getting in the ‘preparation mode’ for Beach Caravan 2012, this year scheduled for 17 – 19 May.

We will continue to have at least one club event each month, and I invite club members to put together plans for club cruises. I will endeavor to keep the club’s activities enjoyable and interesting as we enjoy each other’s camaraderie and our incredible Corvettes.

Bruce

Tech Tips:

Ok, somebody needs to step up and put a waterless coolant in their car and tell us how it works out, in about a million miles. I suppose it might void a warranty, so, maybe somebody with an older model could try it ?

Imagine your radiator coolant - with no water in it !!     Jay Leno explains - he likes it !

The first link goes to the factory web site. One of the testimonials (need research , not testimonials)  is a trucker with over 500,000 miles on the engine with the Evans Cooling system since new, the internals of which measure to OEM specs on teardown.

Be sure to read the marketing brochure - you might have to buy a big tube aluminum radiator.

Car(S) of the Month:

My love of Corvettes started when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I had a HotWheels Custom Corvette, which was actually a model of the C3 Vette that HotWheels came out with before Chevrolet launched the 1968 C3 Corvette. I still have this HotWheels model, but nephews have played with it and the hood is missing. Otherwise, it would be the only Vette worth more than I paid for it. Ha.

I always wanted to own a Corvette. When I was 40 years old, I was making a decent salary and debt free. Instead of buying a Vette, I built a house and bought a pickup, figuring I must be too old for a Vette. Boy, was I wrong.

When the C6's came out in 2005, I fell in love again with the Vette and decided it was now or never (at the ripe old age of 44). I bought my first Vette, a 2005 Arctic White Coupe. Shortly after, I fell in love again (Debra had shown up after I got a Vette). We joined the North Mississippi Corvette Club in Tupelo, MS. After moving to Louisiana in 2006, we joined Corvettes of Northeast Louisiana in Monroe, LA. After moving to Eufaula in 2009, we joined Circle City Corvettes.

We've been members of the National Corvette Museum since my first Corvette. We have been regular attendees at the C5/C6 Bash and the Corvette Forum Cruise In at the Museum. as well as attending the Pace Car Reunion and Labor Day Celebration. Also the Corvette Homecoming in Bowling Green, Hot Springs Corvette Weekend in Arkansas, Eureka Springs Corvette Weekend in Arkansas, Vettes in the Valley in Maggie Valley, NC, and the LoneStar Corvette Classic in Dallas, TX. And now the Panama City Cruise.

The Vettes we've owned are:

2005 Arctic White Coupe

2007 Machine Silver Coupe (R8C Delivery)

2007 Atomic Orange Pace Car Convertible
2008 Crystal Red Coupe (no pic)

2008 Arctic White Coupe

2010 Jetstream Blue Grand Sport Coupe (R8C Delivery)

2011 Super Sonic Blue Grand Sport Coupe

2012 Arctic White Grandsport Coupe

2012 Carbon Flash Centennial Z06

We've loved every minute of each Vette, and the miles put on each. But most of all, we've loved all of the great people that we've met along the way. Like the wonderful friends we have in Circle City Vettes.

David and Debra Brown
