President's Comments:

So, did August feel like the planet had moved a million or so miles closer to the sun, or was it just me? Wow- It has been Hot!! Anyway, the club did manage to piggy-back onto other club’s events twice in August. On the 4th thru the 7th, 5 couples from our club tagged along with the Emerald Coast Corvette club’s annual trip to Helen GA. We were one of those couples and again this year, it was a blast. I hope more will plan to attend this fun filled event next year. Then on the 13th, the Cruisin Corvette club (Tallahassee) invited us to join them on their monthly cruise. This month they planned a trip to the Air Force Armament museum near Eglin AFB. We had 5 cars attending an interesting and informative day and it was fun, at least for the guys. Gals just don’t seem to get off on bombs, machine guns, and jet fighters to much, and I can’t imagine why – what’s not to like!

Next month maybe it will cool off a little and we can again enjoy the outdoors. The Capitol City Corvette club is having their annual car show on the 10th and I hope some will attend, as the Capitol City folks always give our Beach Caravan event really good support. We will also try to have a club cruise during September.

Tech Tips:

Well it appears the the Circle City Corvette Clubs News Letter has sunk to a new level of desperation. They have actually requested that I do this months "Tech Tip"!! Now mind you I have little in the area of mechanical skills and have been called dipstick more times than I've actually seen one!
We all know that the only thing that chokes air flow better than our stock exhaust is a stuffy nose on a two year old. So with plenty of band-aides, beer and an abundance of self doubt I embarked on the mission of replacing the stock exhaust on my Vette. I do believe that if Billy Bob Bubba can work on a car, so can I!
I was lucky enough to find a set of Kooks headers with hi flo cats and mid pipe on the Corvette Forum. After striking a deal and making the seller swear on a bible not to tell Kathy about it I was the proud owner of a semi-new exhaust system. Follow the link that somewhat chronicles the pain and pleasure of the install.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-tech-performance/2896183-well-here-goes-my-first-header-install.html

I would like to add that anyone thinking about doing this should at the very least enlist the aid of a friend and not do it in 95 degree heat!!!

Hope you enjoy the escapades

Kelly Walker

Recent Local Events:

Attached are a few photos I took during our recent cruise to the Air Force Armament Museum in Niceville FL. The Tallahassee club set-up this cruise and invited us to attend. We had 5 cars show up for the event, and they also had 5. After arrival we were treated to a video of stuff blowing up that was a bit longer than most, especially the ladies, would have preferred. The displays were top notch and very interesting, at least for the guys. The ladies were talking about finding a doll museum they would force the guys to visit as a pay back - Oh No!!

You've never been lost like you've been lost at 2500 mph.
After the museum, we made our way to Beef O'Bradys for a very nice lunch. Then it was on to the winery in De Funiak Springs for some wine tasting. All in all, a very nice day.

Thanks much to the Tallahassee club for inviting us on this cruise.

Car(S) of the Month:

Previously, your webmaster reported on how he got all these cars. Here's a little more. Hopefully, we'll get more contributors to this column, so you don't have to see two again !!

Left is the '93 Z07 40th Anniversary edition. Ours since 2000, now with 196,300 miles and a windshield cracked Friday.
It needs all the usual high-mileage repairs; weather strip, new paint, new bumpers, new glass, and chase out the gremlin family residing behind the dash.  It will still chirp second gear. Two days ago, I observed another 40th leaving Ft Rucker, while driving this one. It's been around.
On the right, a 1999 Z51, 6 speed and white top, one of only 1500 or so in that configuration.  156,000 miles.
Both park in the street (next to a cul-de-sac) until we get some drippy trees removed.

I've now put three sets of tires on the white one. And for the third set in a row, I've had a puncture on the left rear. This time, a huge nail damaged the side wall.  So, a new tire with only 14,000 on the flat one. Still had more than half the tread remaining. The TP warning system again warned me it was going down. But at least this time, the transmitters were in the correct wheels; the left was actually in the left tire. I am running run-flats - some flavor of Michelin Pilot Sport.

Quite possibly both my first and last corvettes in the same pic.
