President's Comments:

June proved to be, as usual, a slow month for the club. Recovering from our Beach Caravan event in May and the hot summer temperatures cause us to take a break from club activities this time of year. But we still got together for one event on the 25th. The Cruisin Corvette club of Tallahassee invited us to attend a private screening on the “Cars 2” movie at the old Zebulon Theatre in Cairo GA with their club. We left Dothan with 13 Corvettes and had a nice caravan to Cairo. The old theatre has been restored and it was like going back in time when we walked through the curtains into the seating area, plus the popcorn was really good!! After the movie, we made a short drive to Mr. Chick for lunch. After lunch, we were invited to tour the antique car museum behind the restaurant which is owned by the owner of Mr. Chick. He had some really nice old Studebakers and the actual Cadillac used in the movie “Driving Miss Daisy”.

In July, we will be having our annual 4th of July party at Seaby and Floy’s place in Ashford on the 9th. Seaby will be grilling burgers and hot dogs while we enjoy the day in and around the pool. Definitely put this one on your calendar.

John has locked in the dates for next year’s Caravan with the Marriott. Our dates for Caravan 2012 will be May 17 – 19.

Tech Tips:
If you have a 2001 - 2004 C5, there’s a pretty good chance you have got the warning on the DIC of: ABS INOP, then, Traction Control Inop, then Active Handling Inop. And if you pulled up the code it was likely C1214, failure of the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). This is a common failure on 100k + mile C5’s. Well, our ’01 coupe with almost 140k miles had this come on every once in a while for about a year, then a few months ago came on and stayed on. So, after a brief web search, I found ‘ABSFIXER.COM’. This is an outfit in MO that will rebuild a faulty 2001-2004 EBCM for only $150 + shipping. This is WAY cheaper than taking it to the dealer and paying around $1000 for a new unit to be installed.

Removing and re-installing isn’t really that hard. I did mine on my lift, but it could be done from above, and in fact, on the absfixer’s web site, they gives detailed instructions on removal and re-installiation. I got the unit back in about 10 days, put it back on, and everything works fine now!! So consider this course of action when your EBCM starts to fail. Go to www.absfixer.com
