President's Comments:

In August we had an invitation from the Emerald Coast Corvette club to join them on their annual Helen GA trip, and we had two CCCC couples take them upon their offer. It turned out to be a fun filled weekend with spirited driving on the twisty roads of north GA, terrific dining, and great camaraderie. On the 29th, we had almost 40 club members enjoying our monthly club event: A fishing/pool party/cookout at Seaby and Floy Bess’s place in Ashford. What great party it was. Many thanks to the Bess’s.

September is largely open with just one scheduled event, a car show in Montgomery. The Capitol City Corvette club, along with other Montgomery car clubs are putting on the Second Annual River Region Benefit Car and Truck Show on the 12th at the Shoppes at EastChase. Other activities for September will be discussed at the club meeting including a club cruise, and a possible trip to the drag strip in Montgomery.

Tech Tips:

For those of you out there with a C5 Corvette and your seat, or seats, slide back and forth a little or a lot. Here is a shim kit advertised to eliminate this problem.

I have purchased this kit, but have not yet installed it. I hope to do it soon and if you can wait I will be glad to tell you if it works or not.

Here is the link to purchasing the kit: http://www.zip-corvette.com/Zip/productr.asp?pf_id=I-2413

Please review this PDF file and decide if you want to attempt it or have someone else do it.

Recent Local Events:

Many thanks to Seaby and Floy Bess for the party on the 29th.  Check out the pics. We fishermen caught 15 or 20 fish, but only 10 were keepers that were filleted and fried. Pat Pattberg assumed the chores of grill master and cooked up the burgers and dogs. As you can see from the photos, Seaby and Floy have a beautiful home and yard. Many enjoyed the pool and Cindy and Shannon got a real kick from the whirlpool oh, and the wine helped too. And Barbara Hickman celebrated, what was it, her 29th birthday?

The trip to Helen GA with the Emerald Coast Corvette Club was a Blast! Kelly and Kathy, and Jean and I made the trip along with 10 cars from ECCC. Attached is a short video of some of the action from our road cruise on Saturday in the hills around Helen. The Emerald coast folks have been doing this trip for several years and have it down to a science. Besides the driving thrills, we enjoyed great food, lots of beer, good music, and great camaraderie. There were only 2 accidents, both involved go-karts, some blood, but nothing serious. And, no break-downs, and no tickets, although Kelly and I came really close during our return trip!!

Car of the Month:

We purchased our current Corvette in October of 2007. We had been looking for a C6 Silver Convertible for a while. We had attended the Vettes at the Village and were returning to Enterprise after a long weekend in the sun. As we were passing Wolf Motors here in Enterprise, they had a C6 Silver Convertible sitting in their driveway. I stopped, looked, and bought it on Monday. It started life in North Carolina, went to Atlanta, and arrived in Enterprise in October. Since I have had the Corvette, new transmission, new battery, new wheels I drive my Corvette every day and thoroughly enjoy the experience. I walk up to the Corvette and observe its smooth lines. When I open the door I pause and admire the interior. I sit down into the leather seat, shut the door and buckled my seat belt. Once again becoming one with this beautiful Corvette. I adjust the steering wheel, gently touch the brake pedal, press the starter button, and listen for the starter to engage and start the engine. I watch as the gauges come to life, RPM, oil pressure, battery, water temp, and fuel gauge, and listen as the engine settles into an idle with a slight shake.

This reminds me of a previous life, a Cobra Pilot. As I walking towards my aircraft, I pause and just look at its lines, a pure weapon of war. As I opened the canopy, I would check the interior for proper equipment, step into the cockpit and sit down into the pilots seat. Close the canopy, strap in, and again become one with the aircraft. Checking to make sure the area around the aircraft is clear and blades untied, turn the ignition switch on, adjust the throttle, and gentle squeeze the starter switch. I would listen for the starter to engage and start the turbine and feel the engine come to a steady whine. The whole aircraft would shake, it was ready for flight This experience can only be imagined unless one has done it.
We do a lot of traveling in our Corvette. Whether the top is up or down, it’s a great ride.
We like cruise ins, car shows, beach cruises, at least once a month to PC. As you are reading this, we are on our way to Carlisle, PA, to attend the NCCC Car show which usually has around 10,000 Corvettes in attendance. It also has the largest Corvette Swap Meet and car corral on the east coast, to include all Corvette vendors as well. We are also going to visit the Biltmore estate on the way home as well as my brother in Atlanta. We will be home for a couple of days then continue on to Louisiana for a wedding of our sons stepdaughter on the 11th. Road Atlanta in coming up at the end of September and reservations have already been made.
This September will be busy for us. The Corvette was built to be driven, and enjoyed, I am doing my part. For those of you who leave your Corvette in the garage……………..
