President's Comments:
As the nice fall weather comes back so does the car shows. The Calhoun
County Sheriff’s car show at Xtreme Motorsports in Blountstown on the 10th
was attended by 5 cars from the club, with 2 of them receiving a Top 5
award. On the 17th, we had 2 cars attend the Vettes at the Village Corvette
show at the Baytowne Village in Destin. Then on the 24th, we had our monthly
cruise courtesy of Mike who took us on a tour of some of the Dothan parks on
a Poker Rally. After the Rally, we tried the El Dorado steak house in
Headland which lived up to their excellent reputation. Thanks to Mike for
setting this up and buying the prizes for best poker hand, and for the
winner of the Corvette trivia test.
In November, we start out with 2 activities on the 7th, the Sliver
Springs Corvette show at the Silver Springs theme park in Ocala FL, and the
National Peanut Festival Parade in Dothan. On Friday the 13th, we will be
visiting 3 of the charities we choose for this year to present their
donation checks. Then on the 21st, we will go to Mike's Critters in Banks AL
to visit his zoo, and present them with a donation check.
I want to remind everyone that we will be collecting membership dues now,
which are overdue after December 31st. We are also finalizing our plans for
our Christmas Party on December 5th.

Member Journeys:
| Carlisle 2009 by Bill and Jackie We left for Carlisle
PA. on Wednesday the 26th of August around 8AM, with a trunk load of
items. We would be spending a week on the road which included Carlisle,
the Biltmore Estate, and stopping off at Road Atlanta to get tickets and
visit with the caravan enroute to Bowling Green. We went by way of
Atlanta and picked up interstate 77 at Charlotte, NC and stayed in Hillsville
which is just south of interstate 81. We visited downtown Hillsville and
had dinner at the only restaurant in town. Thursday we continued on to
Carlisle by way of Frederick, Maryland, my home town, and Chambersburg
where we would be spending the next four days.
|

|
 |
 |
| Friday, we went to Carlisle,
checked in to the registration office and parked in the NCCC compound.
The weather was not the best, fog, misty, etc. It was great weather for
walking around and seeing all the displays, vendors, car corral and
food. I found only two items for the C6 in the swap meet area, mufflers
and hood insulation. |
 |
| Saturday it rained most of the day, especially
during the car show. We had signed up for the parade that would go
downtown Carlisle that evening, but with the rain, we went back to the
hotel to dry out. |

|
| Sunday turned out to be really nice and sunny.
Magna flow mufflers brought in Mario Andretti to talk to folks and sign
anything you put in front of him. He was very cordial, talking and asking
questions as he signed the different items. I had him sign my fuel rail
covers. He got a kick out of that and asked what I was going to do with
them. I told him they would be displayed on the 'Vette, he said that was
great. |
 |
| There were so many 'Vettes on the fair grounds it was impossible to
see them all. There were vendor for Corvette parts all over the grounds
including the engineers from General Motors. If someone had a problem
with their 'Vette, one or more of the engineers would attempt to solve
that problem. They seemed to be very busy solving problems. |
 |
| NCCC gave out awards on Sunday, of which I took
second, and the sponsor award for the infield cars were presented that
afternoon. Following the sponsor awards, a Corvette was given away. This
year a Corvette that had been a racing Corvette was presented to a very
lucky WIFE. She made sure everyone new that. With that give away, it was
the last item on the agenda for the Carlisle weekend. Traffic was heavy
and we finally got back to the hotel around 7pm. |
 |
| Monday we left Chambersburg for Ashville,
NC to visit the Biltmore Estates. It took three years to build,1892 –
1895. The family moved into the home on Christmas, 1895. You could not
take your own pictures in the home, just around the estate. It reminded
us of Germany, the area around Rothenberg, especially the way the home
was built and the land around it. The only thing missing was a moat.
When the Biltmore was active, it supported 370 folks, who were fed three
meals a day. The family moved out of the home in the early 50’s. The
home/estate was turned into a tourist attraction during the depression
to support the estate. There are 1800 employees working to take care of
the estate and to complete a full restoration, turning the years back to
the days when it was built. During WWII, paintings from the National
Gallery of Art were stored there for fear Washington was going to be
bombed. There are no family members living on the estate at this time.
Everyone comes in the morning and goes home in the evening at 6pm |
 |
|
Wednesday we departed Ashville for Road Atlanta, bought our tickets,
visited with Jim and Charley with the caravan, and came home that
afternoon. We drove 2175 miles and averaged 28.77 MPG.
